DALLAS (May 7, 2013) – Atmos Energy Corporation has reversed more than 39,000 overcharges which were incorrectly drafted from customer credit and debit card accounts on Sunday, May 5, 2013.

The isolated event occurred when a vendor charged a segment of customers who pay their bill by credit or debit card through a recurring automatic draft. These customers were charged ten times the actual amount of their current gas bill.

Now the customer’s financial institution will begin to process the reimbursement back into their accounts. In the meantime, Atmos Energy will reimburse any financial impact to customer accounts due to our error.

Atmos Energy has contacted all affected customers to reassure them that their bank accounts, debit cards and credit cards will be reimbursed in full for any fees or charges resulting from these overcharges. We have supplied those customers with a direct email which they can use to contact us regarding this matter. If customers have further questions, they may call our toll free number 1-888-286-6700.

It is important that customers understand this was an isolated incident impacting a limited number of customers. Atmos Energy serves more than three million customers in eight states.
