Technology seems to pervade every aspect of life in the 21st century. However, this abundance doesn’t always trickle down to young students. Atmos Energy donated 20 laptops to a nearby school to assist with their technological advancement.

James Owens, Safety Manager for Atmos Energy and Jeff Whiting, IT Manager for Atmos Energy delivered the PCs to fifth-grade students at Chapel Hill Academy in Fort Worth. Not only were the students grateful for the donations, but the teachers also expressed their heartfelt appreciation.

“Thank you very much for bringing these computers to us,” said fifth-grade Gifted and Talented teacher Margie Simpson, “The kids were so excited to know that these are available. We are very grateful for your kindness regarding the donation!”

Whiting, who is the IT PC donation coordinator for the Mid-Texas Division explains, “These laptops run out of warranty after four years. Because of software licensing, we usually can’t use them past four years but for the most part, they are still working great. We would much rather donate them to people who can use them than have them wind up in the scrap yard.”

The donation of laptops and other computers isn’t foreign to Atmos Energy. More than 200 machines have been given to volunteer fire departments, police departments and a variety of help agencies and schools.
