Senior Life Midland (SLM) addresses challenges related to aging and develops efficient, flexible, and compassionate ways to improve the quality of life for seniors.  In coordination with other program providers, SLM provides invaluable services to address hunger and malnutrition, loneliness and social isolation, home safety and security, aging information, and education for its most mature residents.

SLM also helps senior residents struggling to find options for grocery shopping, prescription pickup, getting to and from doctors’ appointments, and dealing with loneliness that comes with spending a significant time in isolation.  Designed with these challenges in mind, SLM’s programs and senior activities include:

  • Meals on Wheels:  Hot, nutritious meals delivered Monday through Friday to elderly, disabled, and homebound persons who qualify.  Two additional frozen meals are delivered on Friday to those seniors with the most need, offering extra meals for the weekend.
  • Handyman: Minor home repair services to low-income elderly homeowners, such as building wheelchair ramps or other necessary changes to facilitate independent living.
  • One Day at a Time: Supporting homebound elderly and low-income senior citizens with daily living necessities, such as purchasing an essential medicine so rent can be paid.
  • Meals on Wheels for Paws: Pet food provided for homebound seniors included with the Meals on Wheels delivery.
  • Senior Centers: Give active seniors the opportunity to socialize and participate in activities that contribute to their overall health and wellbeing.
  • Senior Corps Programs: Helping volunteers age 55 or older to become mentors for elementary-age students, coaches, or companions to people in need, or contribute their job skills and expertise to community projects and organizations.

“Senior Life Midland serves an often forgotten population,” said Andrea Goodson, Atmos Energy manager of public affairs.  “Through our Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities program, we are proud to support SLM’s mission and volunteer alongside their dedicated staff who work tirelessly to help maintain good health, dignity, and independence for our Midland seniors in need.”

Atmos Energy’s West Texas team began its partnership with SLM in 2014 to support their Meals on Wheels program.  Team members deliver meals to homebound seniors every Friday and supported meal preparation prior to the coronavirus pandemic.  In addition, Atmos Energy team members volunteer at SLM’s annual March for Meals fundraiser, purchase fans to keep seniors cool during the hot summer months through SLM’s annual fan drive, and since 2014 have donated more than $20,000 to the SLM Salute annual gala and other fundraisers.

“Atmos Energy is a business that walks the walk and truly makes a difference in our hometown,” said Kathleen Kirwan-Haynie, Senior Life Midland executive director.  “Atmos Energy team members roll up their sleeves, work hard, and care about those who need our help.  We are so grateful to Atmos Energy and the culture of giving back that is instilled within the company.”
