With the holidays approaching, it seems that everyone is looking for ways to cut everyday costs to indulge in the season and their loved ones. There are many ways to easily save on energy costs to make room in your budget for what matters most to you.

Just a few small modifications in your daily routine can save you money on utility bills. Not only will you save energy and money, but you will also lower your home's carbon footprint.

 WINTER TIPS:

  1. Unfreeze your account & call us for payment plans: 888.286.6700. The call centers see lowest call volumes on weekday afternoons.
  2. Inspect appliances before winter. Visit atmosenergy.com/dealer for an authorized dealer. 
  3. Set thermostat to 70° during the day and 58° when away from home for more than a few hours.
  4. 120° is the ideal temperature for water heater safety and efficiency.
  5. Caulk around windows and doors to prevent air leaks and keep warm air inside.
  6. Run clothes washer on cold with a full load to increase water and energy efficiency.
  7. Change your air conditioning filters to be more efficient and use less energy.
  8. Open curtains and blinds during the day to let sunlight in; close them at night to insulate against outside air.
  9. Save up to 50% on hot water use by putting water-flow restrictors in showerheads and faucets.
  10. Close dampers on unused fireplaces to keep warm air from escaping up the chimney.
  11. Place an insulating blanket around an older water heater tank to retain heat.
  12. Remove snow and ice buildup from meters and pipes.
