Turn Your Clocks Back and Switch your Batteries for Daylight Saving Time

Safety
November 2, 2017

While setting clocks to “fall back” this Sunday for Daylight Saving Time, stay a step ahead in safety. Remember to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to protect yourself and your family.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless, colorless toxic gas and because the fumes are impossible to see, taste or smell, it can be deadly. To prevent CO buildup, the U.S. Fire Administration recommends installation and maintenance of carbon monoxide alarms in a central location, outside each sleeping area and on every level of your home to provide early warning.

According to the Center for Disease Control, the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are flu-like and often include headache, sleepiness, weakness, vomiting, dizziness and tightness in the chest. If you or your family experience these symptoms, go outside immediately and call 911 or seek emergency medical attention.
