Engineers Week: Design Your Future

Every year, Engineers Week gives us a moment to recognize and celebrate the contributions of engineers across many industries. It’s a time to appreciate the innovations that shape our world, from cutting-edge technology to infrastructure that keeps society running. But beyond innovation and creativity, there’s one crucial aspect of engineering that often goes unnoticed: Reliability. Our engineers design for reliability that allows our customers to know that the natural gas Atmos Energy delivers will remain safe and dependable all year long.

At its core, engineering isn’t just about designing something that works, it’s about designing something that works consistently. Whether you’re talking about a medical device, the brakes on your car, or the natural gas infrastructure system, reliability is essential for assuring safety, boosting efficiency, and building trust.

In 1951, the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) established National Engineers Week to generate interest in engineering and technology careers and ensure a diverse and well-educated workforce for generations to come. At Atmos Energy, we celebrate our engineering team every day for their contributions to the operations, right of way, marketing, system planning, and public affairs teams to safely install, maintain, expand, and care for our resilient pipeline and distribution system.

At Atmos Energy, we deeply appreciate the engineers who drive innovation and modernization in the natural gas industry. Their expertise and dedication ensure that safe and reliable delivery of energy to our 1,400 communities and 3 million customers.

With 189 engineers on our team, we recognize the value of curiosity, adaptability and passion for solving complex challenges. “I find my work deeply important and fulfilling because it directly contributes to the safety and stability of our system. Knowing that my efforts help keep our system running securely and reliably gives me a strong sense of purpose and responsibility,” said Joshua Singletary, Atmos Energy Engineer 1.

Many of our engineers began their journey with us as interns, gaining hands-on experience that shaped their careers. We especially admire those who embrace learning, tackle diverse projects, and continuously expand their skill sets.

“As engineers we have a responsibility to design and manage natural gas systems that are safe, reliable, and innovative because our efforts will not only impact our current customers but for future generations,” said Teri Labella, Atmos Energy Engineer 2.

Whether it’s designing new additions to the system or modernizing existing parts of our current system, Atmos Energy engineers play a pivotal role in safely distributing reliable natural gas services.

To all engineers who contribute their time, talent, and problem-solving abilities, we say thank you. Your work fuels and keeps our communities moving forward.
